How do I toggle Chat alerts Off?

If you prefer not to get any Chat alerts, you can go to Settings>Alert Preferences>Chat Notifications and toggle them to OFF.

NOTE: This will turn off ALL Chat notifications.

Can I just mute specific conversations?

Yes! When you are in a Chat conversation, tap the Chat name at the top of the screen and then toggle  Mute Notifications to On. This will mute notifications for this conversation only.
